As we’ve mentioned before, many chambers of commerce and business associations are jumping into blogging as a way to reach out to their audience and engage them with social media. However, many organizations have just one person blogging due to time constraints or familiarity with social media.
Today, Seth Godin posted about the death of the personal blog. (Don’t worry – there’s still room for your own blog about your personal interests.) However, his point is that the top 10 blogs are all written by teams of people. Blogs are “judged” by search engines on how frequently they are updated (new posts) and the relevance of the content, among other things. By having several of your staff post to your blog, you can significantly increase the amount of content. Read Seth’s post for more insight here.
Take WebLink for example. We currently have two staff members blogging consistently with occasional contributions from others. And, we’ll have two more staff up and running soon. By doing this, each of us can bring our own unique views to ideas on membership management software, chamber databases, member retention, non-dues revenue, member intelligence and new member sales. We currently have nine staff members with a total of more than 50 years experience at chambers of commerce and associations – we’ve got a lot to share! With many of us blogging, we can ultimately generate more content on a wider variety of issues and reach out to more of our target audience, both clients and prospects.
We use Compendium Blogware to help us facilitate multiple authors for the purpose of better search engine results. Other blog providers have options for multiple authors as well. No matter what tools you use, get your other staff members involved in blogging, too. You may be suprised by how good their content is and I know you’ll see good results. If you have any questions about how you can use multiple staff for your blogging efforts, please let me know at curt.moss@weblinkinternational.com.
